 INSPIRATIONAL MUSIC

(credits: www.sonicnet.com                BACK TO HOME PAGE

Music:

It keeps us running...

Since the dawn of mankind, artists have expressed their visions of  altruism and charitableness with great emotion. Can runners, the Internet, and the influence of music and charity seize a great day? Can a global E-running event become an INTERNATIONAL DAY OF CHARITY? Like all decisions in this event: You, the runner, must decide. ......... Find the music in your country that fits with our event.

Eric Clapton: Donated 100 guitars to charity in 1999! Per Mr. Clapton:  "...they all have a place in my heart and my life, and each one tells a part of my story." Donations were made to his international charity, Crossroads Centre, in beautiful Antigua.  His song 'Change the World' (Reprise Records)  has some very profound lyrics. If listened carefully, it may be about runners making a statement to charity for one special day. Listen to it! If you spot the mythological figures for running and charity - you're not alone! When you run on World Run Day, and his music inspires you, send a donation to Crossroads Centre:

"Helping people take that first step towards change"

Steely Dan: Donald Fagan/Walter Becker. Their music is true inspiration. It brings out real artistic passion! 'Deacon Blues' (MCA Records) can be a song about  a writer, saxophonist, or a runner: "sue me it I play too long... this brother is free ....I'll be what I want to be."  If you are passionate about something, pursue it. You will never know what can happen if you don't....  You can crawl thru those suburban streets, or run your favorite route. Be what you want to be on World Run Day. Give to the charity that you are passionate about - dedicate your run to your favorite cause.

R. Kelly: 'I Believe I Can Fly' (Warner Sonet Records) became an  international hit when it was featured in the 1997 movie Space Jam. It was also Grammy material and can inspire runners to achieve their true potential.  Listen to it right before the big run!

Sting: With his wife Trudie Styler, founded an international charity, Save the Rainforest Foundation. They both still serve on the board of trustees. His song 'Brand New Day' (A&M Records) was a smash millennium hit. Can it also be about people running on November 9th as part of the world's First International Day of Charity  (World Run Day - A Brand New Day?) Listen and you may even think so. Donate to  Save The Rainforest!
Sting's appearance in Bryant Park, NYC (October 2001) was a memorable experience, making him one of our honorary leaders for this event.

U2

U2: Many of  their familiar works have themes of spiritual salvation. They also help support Amnesty International and other great causes. One of the best songs that continues to inspire this event is the blockbuster hit:

'I Still Haven't Found What I'm Looking For'
(Island Records Ltd)

"I have run I have crawled
I have scaled these city walls
Only to be with you, Only to be with you
But I still haven't found
What I'm looking for"

Are we all looking for that perfect run, for the perfect meaning? We'll all find it. It can be A Beautiful Day. Their latest album exemplifies the day.
Donate to fight the plight of AIDS in Africa, projects to erase third-world debt, or many other great causes.

Amnesty International

Green Day: 'Good Riddance' (Time of your life) (Reprise Records)

Wherever you are, make this run the time of your life.

'Another turning point, a fork stuck in the road.
Time grabs you by the wrist, directs you where to go.
So make the best of this test, and don't ask why.
It's not a question, but a lesson learned in time.

It's something unpredictable, but in the end is right.
I hope you had the time of your life'

Bob Marley

Bob Marley: 'One Love', 'No Woman, No Cry' (Island Records)
His ideas and enduring themes of his lyrics (social justice and harmony, racial equality, the resilience of the human spirit, among others) expressed through music have fostered Reggae music to global popularity. In the years since his death in 1981, his music and popularity continue to grow. Marley expressed his vision of One World, One Love through music, a message that transcends racial, religious, and social-class boundaries while continuing to inspire younger generations. Visit the bobmarley.com  website. Regarding the connection with World Run Day:

'One love, one heart
Let's get together and feel all right'

          www.bobmarley.com

Bruce Springsteen: One of his classic works 'Born To Run' (CBS Records) is still a favorite for the running trail. There are plenty of images in this song about running. Maybe, for one day, we're all born to run.

'Sprung from cages on highway nine, chrome wheels fuel-injected and steppin out over the line'

....'Walk with me on the wire'.......
.... 'Guard Your Dreams and Visions'...

Moody Blues

The Moody Blues: They have received numerous coveted music awards and appeared all over the world to sell-out audiences. In recent years they toured South Africa in the wake of the political changes that, among other things, opened the doors to touring artists.

'I Know You're Out There Somewhere' (Polygram Records) is a foretelling tune about the emotion this event has. A great day for charity is waiting to unfold.

'And the strength of the emotion
Is like thunder in the air........Yes I know it's going to happen'

Billy Joel: A classic artist outright, spreading wealth to charities across Long Island, and writing great music in 'New York State of Mind' and 'Your Only Human' (Second Wind) Columbia Records

'All I needed was a little faith so that I could
catch my breath and face the world again'

We will promote this concept year after year. The event will grow. All great running events do.

Carlos Santana: A man of perseverance, and back in the spotlight! His smooth style with other artists, such as Rob Thomas, on Supernatural, shows his great gift! His Milagro Foundation partners with the nonprofit community to serve the needs of children and youth. Started in 1998 by Carlos and Deborah Santana, the foundation supports educational efforts to help children and youth live healthy lives, literate lives and culturally enriched lives. The song 'Smooth' (Arista Records) can describe our philosophy of World Run Day:

Give me (us) your heart, make it real, or let's both forget about it......

Tears for Fears

Tears For Fears: 'Everybody Wants To Rule The World' (Mercury Records) was a number 1 hit in the USA and it's album also reached number 1. The song, 'Everybody Wants To Rule The World' was adopted as the theme tune for the Sport Aid famine relief event in 1986 (with a slight change in the title to 'Everybody Wants To Run The World'), giving the band massive exposure.

Kenny Loggins

Kenny Loggins: "This is It" (Columbia Records)

Just take a look at www.kennyloggins.com  As he states it: "Julia and I believe in taking our social responsibilities seriously. We are passionately concerned about the future, not only for our family, but for yours, and for everyone on the planet." From his Higher Vision Inc. he has numerous charities that he supports. Go to his site to explore his commitments

The day, World Run Day.......  This is it!

New Radicals

New Radicals: 'You get what you give'
(MCA Records)

Music, old and new, provides great inspiration.

'If you feel your dream is dying, hold tight,               You've got the music in you, don't let go'
Yes, we've got the dreamer's disease....

R.E.M.

R.E.M.: 'Losing My Religion' (Warner Bros.)

"Three things that could (always) be counted on in
R.E.M.'s music: intelligence, integrity and craft."

        -Robert Hilburn, Los Angeles Times

'What if all these fantasies
Come flailing around
Now I've said too much
I thought that I heard you laughing
I thought that I heard you sing
I think I thought I saw you try

But that was just a dream
That was just a dream'

Steve Winwood

Traffic: 'Low Spark of High-Heeled Boys'
(Island Records)

"Somehow the spirit of the song as opposed to being
perhaps more musically correct has always been more
important." - Steve Winwood

'If I gave you everything that I owned
and asked for nothing in return
Would you do the same for me
as I would for you?

Or take me for a ride
and strip me of everything
including my pride
But, spirit is something that no one destroys....'

Bryan Ferry

Bryan Ferry: 'Slave to Love' (Warner Bros.)

"In my records the demos become the finished tracks. I work on them more and more, developing each song on the same tape until it becomes finished. It's like the same canvas is overlaid and overlaid until it gets to the point where it's right."  -- Bryan Ferry

"Tell her I'll be waiting,
in the usual place
with the tired and weary,
and there's no escape.

..... we're the restless hearted not the chained and bound."

John Lennon

John Lennon: 'Imagine' (Apple Records)

What is undeniable, is that the body of songs he created with Paul McCartney is the finest popular music catalogue ever known. His composition 'Imagine' was voted one of the songs of the millennium, and for many has unbelievable power and meaning. It was released in September 1971.

The words of his music can speak volumes.

The Ultimate Collection The energy and longevity of this band is amazing. Formed in Shepherd's Bush, London, England in 1964, The Who evolved out of local youth club band the Detours. 'In Tune' is a great pick to combine the synergy of runners with the charity world - especially local charity. This event is dedicated to all those charities who spend their last dollar for their particular cause. We the runners will create an event to particularly help them.....
