World Run Day 2004 - How to host:

Introduction

World Run Day is gaining in popularity across the world.

To accommodate questions about preparations for the event, we've created this information page with some general guidelines. Please remember, however, that running events vary around the world...

For us to offer the same guidelines for an event in Alaska and also satisfy the culture and climate of the Philippines, Poland, or Cameroon, Africa - may be a challenge in itself. Use these general guidelines and tailor them for your location.

You, the event director, must help decide what the spirit of this event is in your locale. Your unique challenge awaits! We will be posting stories of your event upon completion.

The Course

The world is filled with beautiful and symbolic locations to host World Run Day. Select a course that may have some significance to you and/or your event participants. Review the safety of the course while planning. Make a final review the day of the event. Please measure this course as accurately as possible. Mark the route (especially turns) so that all runners can follow it.

Depending on the number of runners that you are anticipating, it is advisable that you contact local authorities to request their approval in planning the event. Professional race management companies are available to prepare a great event for you. If not, try to host a small event for a great cause.

Your event may require permits or simply written approval. Many jurisdictions are already very enthusiastic about this event! This page is geared more for the small event director with some basic advice. Professional event directors can be found on the web.

Timing

As the saying goes: "Timing is everything." Do the best you can in timing your event. Whether you hire a professional timing company, rent a clock at the finish line, or simply have a volunteer with a watch to shout times to your finishers. Do your best to have accurate times.

Sponsors

Our site does not contain paid sponsors, so there will be no conflict with yours..

The World Run Day Sponsorship Proposal is located at: http://www.runday.com/sponsor2001.pdf.

This proposal was designed exclusively for World Run Day Event Directors in all regions of the world. Feel free to add your own words and categories as you deem appropriate. Sponsor monies should be use for funding your event. Our site is not funded by paid sponsors, therefore no conflict with your sponsors will arise.

Any extra monies may be used at the event director's discretion. (charitable donation, future event funding, advertising, etc.)

Use it in the spirit of the event!

Safety

General safety rules for running events in your locale should be followed. Accommodations should be made for water, toilets, medical, insurance, etc.

For example, if your event takes place in the USA and requires insurance, you may contact 1 (317) 261-0500 for a local USA Track & Field Association representative. See www.usatf.org for more information. In other countries insurance is also available. Other organizations may also carry insurance.

Awards

The World Run Day commemorative event t-shirt is the award provided to those who run and donate on this day.

If desired, event directors may choose to have additional awards and/or raffles after the event. Please remember, additional awards are optional. Choose your favorite supplier. Sample provided by J.J. Steinbuhler of Ribbon Factory Awards (800 957-1990).
