Team PhRMA Enjoys World Run Day 2007
What a turnout!
TeamPhRMA, represented by over 50% of our employees, covered approximately 350 miles on Sunday - enough to go from our headquarters office in Washington DC to mid-Connecticut. Given the challenge of World Run Day to get out and be active on Sunday and to combine that personal activity with charitable giving, PhRMA staff came through. And the challenge was sweetened that PhRMA’s contribution would be doubled if 100% of a department participated. So we are thrilled to be contributing to the work of Tracy’s Kids, a pediatric art therapy program at Georgetown University Medical Center’s Lombardi Comprehensive Cancer Center.
This weekend’s activity was a natural extension of how our staff live their lives! We are consistently out on the trails, bike paths, pools and at the gym keeping in shape and encouraging family and friends to join us. In fact, over 75% of us belong to a gym, and over 10% accept the challenge each year of at least 1 endurance event whether it be a marathon, a triathlon or a distance bike ride.
This lifestyle puts into action the purpose behind our organization – enhancing the lives of others. The Pharmaceutical Research and Manufacturers of America (PhRMA) represents the country’s leading pharmaceutical research and biotechnology companies, which are devoted to discovering medicines that allow patients to live longer, healthier, and more productive lives. In fact, PhRMA companies are leading the way in the search for new cures. PhRMA members alone invested an estimated $43 billion in 2006 in discovering and developing new medicines. Industry-wide research and investment reached a record $55.2 billion in 2006.
