World Run Day Awards Announced
San Diego , Washington DC , and California Run Away with Prizes

New York , NY November 29, 2007 – Californians ran away as the “Top State”, while San Diego just nipped the wire to become the “Top City” for virtual runners in the 9th edition of World Run Day held November 11, 2007 this year. The annual event has runners celebrating the health benefits of running by creating their own unique course and also becoming “connected” to other runners in over 1,000 cities worldwide on one special day. Event results, including all participant names, category winners, pictures, and videos are available at runday.com.

Approximately 2,500 participants, throughout all 50 US states, connected with each other in celebration. Several foreign countries also participated, as New Zealand began the festivities when dawn emerged, and several other countries followed suit.

A procession of runners from Australia, Hong Kong, Austria, Poland, Ireland, and Great Britain celebrated before runners in North America could even wake up. The USA and Canada, with the largest participant share, had turnout of over twenty group events. Kids and adults, both slow and fast, ran together. The largest event was held by Team PhRMA located in Washington, DC., where over 200 employees, led by Naomi Morales, participated and wore the event t-shirt - sure to become a collector’s item for each and every participant.

San Diego had 22 runners in different sections of the city participate, while the State of California saw 261 separate runners in a variety of towns, villages, and cities participate as well. The runners registered for the event at runday.com and were mailed an event t-shirt. Due to the popularity and demand for the 2007 logo, a first-issue sweatshirt will be made available to participants during the holiday season.

As 2007 ends, preparations will begin in January for drawing even more runners for the 10th Annual World Run Day held Sunday, November 9, 2008. Running on Passion – One Runner at a Time

New York, NY July 5, 2007 The firecrackers have already wilted; but runners are starting to sparkle for World Run Day – celebrated Sunday, November 11, 2007 this year. The world-wide day for running has already registered scores of participants via 200 active.com registration websites throughout the USA . Participant names and cities are already listed on www.runday.com.

By registering in a World Run Day “Training Run,” at active.com, over 150 runners have begun planning for the November 11th event. Interestingly, they’ve dedicated their training runs to girlfriends, boyfriends, dads, and loved ones.

“It’s a convenient excuse to get the beautiful event t-shirt well in advance” states founder Bill McDermott of Long Island , New York . “Training Runs” are scheduled for each weekend thru November, offering free World Run Day registration and encouraging runners to proudly display their World Run Day event t-shirts over the summer. In the long run, World Run Day hopes to become the largest participatory running event ever!

Started in 1999, World Run Day has gained momentum year after year. Last year the event partnered with the UN World Food Program and helped feed nearly 100,000 hungry children. This year runners are encouraged to connect with other runners worldwide and donate to their favorite local charity (in the spirit of the day).

"World Run Day" continues to draw interest internationally. Running clubs and individuals all over the world are asked to join in this event; teachers especially are encouraged to use "World Run Day" as a method to raise awareness of running and its health benefits.
