World Run Day - Our Inspiration Page
Charities Can Profit by Hosting WRD
Running events have been a monetary windfall for many charities!
If you can measure a safe course and provide some volunteers, you too can host
World Run Day in your city. Just like the millennium celebration, this event
will vary from city to city. The objective isn’t always to get thousands of
runners, but moreso to help celebrate the day. With some guidance, your event can grow
year after year. In four years, World Run Day - London attendance has increased
from 200 to 2300 runners! Why not start a new tradition in your city ... and
watch it grow. Remember, running is the best form of exercise available in the
world today, so why not let everyone know it.
The best thing about World Run Day is that most of the legwork is done for
you. You belong to an event with a professional event website, a sponsorship
template for your funding, an artistic t-shirt logo, links to local newspapers,
a public relations campaign, and a hefty advertising campaign on www.runnersworld.com.
That’s certainly a good start.
All you have to do is support one of the healthiest activities in the world
today: RUNNING. It’s all set for one special day: Sunday, November 5, 2006. Help put an end to World Hunger in 2006 by volunteering to host the event in your community. See www.wfp.org for more information about world hunger.
Please feel free to register your event with us and use our event director
toolkit located on our home page. In the meantime, some words of inspiration....
"Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed citizens can change
the world. Indeed, it is the only thing that ever has."
- Margaret Mead
"To laugh often and much, to win the respect of intelligent people and the
affection of children, to earn the appreciation of honest critics and endure
the betrayal of false friends, to appreciate beauty, to find the best in others,
to leave the world a bit better, whether by a healthy child, a garden patch,
or a redeemed social condition, to know even one life has breathed easier because
you have lived, THIS is to have succeeded."
- Ralph Waldo Emerson
"The bread in your cupboard belongs to the hungry man; the coat hanging
unused in your closet belongs to the man who needs it; the shoes rotting in your
closet belong to the man who has none; the money which you hoard in the bank belongs
to the poor. You do wrong to everyone you could help, but fail to help."
- St. Basil the Great
"We need an international day of running ...We need an international day
of charity ... We need a World Run Day!"
- Bill McDermott
Good luck with your run!
