Justin Guerriero, Shrewsbury New Jersey
Justin has a great story to tell! Running for charity is not new for
him. By selecting the 50 yard dash as his favorite distance on World Run
Day 1999, Justin managed to obtain pledge donations amounting to $35.00
for the Lighthouse Foundation. Like the event says - "any distance,
any amount". We applaud his efforts and those who supported him.
But what makes this story the most noteworthy is that Justin was only 4
years old when he ran - our youngest on record! Thanks
Justin!
Residents on the Island of Cape Verde
In the true spirit of this event, a resident on the island of Cape
Verde - as reported by www.runtheplanet.com
- ran around the island posting home-made flyers announcing World
Run Day 1999. In a nation where money is scarce, the sum total of $20USD
was gladly appreciated by charity - and the publicity was much
appreciated by the organizer of World Run Day. Our hats are off to Cape
Verde who helped illustrate the true spirit of the event! Thanks Cape
Verde!
Bill Colletti, Sofia Bulgaria
On Sunday, November 7, 1999 this event stretched
all the way out to Bulgaria. Bill Colletti may have felt a little lonely
out there, but he was our biggest donor. Bill donated $200USD to the
Montana Bulgaria Orphanage. Run any distance you choose -
in a race, on your own, donate whatever you wish to your favorite
charity. A big Thank You to Bill Colletti!
Runners on the boardwalk of Long Beach, NY
Imagine hearing about a run, World Run Day, only one week before it's
about to occur. What is this? What's it all about? It wasn't one of the
bigger events held on the day, but it was certainly a fun time for all,
and the t-shirts were "real nice".
People remarked later of the pride they felt in providing a
donation. With the waves of the Atlantic Ocean as a backdrop, and one of
(if not the) most beautiful boardwalks in the world to run on - people
came, ran, and donated - to any charity on the face of the earth. A
special thanks to the residents and the town officials of Long Beach,
NY!
