NEW YORK, November 11, 2019  – World Run Day Event Breaks Records

If you missed it, World Run Day happened yesterday – Sunday, November 10th. “Unfortunately, eight months of planning to accommodate 250+ countries on the planet, while also offering over 64,000 colorful t-shirt variations AND letting runners donate to any charity they wanted to was simply too much for one website and one PR person admits Bill McDermott, World Run Day founder at www.runday.com. Nonetheless, the results are the most impressive to date.

With a name like “WORLD RUN DAY” we certainly should have captured 5 Million charity runners; but unfortunately we fell short of that. “By my estimation, we had more runners recorded than the sum total of all 20 World Run Day events combined.” Bill states. In reviewing the results just in the USA alone, we had over 90,000 runners (not quite 100,000). “It’s tough to get a press release out with all the news out there, and my social media has room for improvement,” the runner happily admits. Well, “There’s always next year, November 8, 2020,” he says.

The GOOD NEWS is that plenty of runners showed up, enough that it will take some time to research global results. By McDermott’s calculations, there were plenty of events outside the USA that will need more attention for next year. It’s simply a matter of contacting them – and other running groups worldwide.

Unlike many virtual running events scattered across the Internet, World Run Day happens on one specific day a year. This year it was November 10th. It’s not held on a three-day weekend, nor on Saturday and Sunday combined. That would taint the name of the event (held on a day) and most certainly mislead results.

While some would think a day off is deserved, the event planning for next year (2020) has already started.

NEW YORK, November 5, 2019  – GLOBAL “RUN-FOR-YOUR-CHARITY” EVENT HELD NOV 10th

Behind every good running event is a charity. Behind World Run Day, this November 10thth, there’s a ton of them – including your own favorite charity. In its 21st year, World Run Day creator Bill McDermott of Long Beach, NY has created a platform for charitable runners and virtual run enthusiasts to simply run and mail a check directly to their charity of choice.

It’s like your own “Bucket Challenge,” referring to the ALS 2014 viral event; but it’s all about running and choosing a charity in your own town – and maybe drinking the water this time around. It’s an event that is definitely good for your health and good for your community.

The Show Us Your Flag campaign refers to the 250 flag-inspired bib choices runners enjoy at www.runday.com. Runners are urged to download a bib (by country) and take a selfie for posting to their favorite social media. No country or flag has been overlooked in this event, including the infamous Rainbow Flag celebrating gender identity. Scrolling thru the vast selection of colorful event t-shirts makes you feel like you’re in a virtual parade of nations. In total, there are about 64,000 different variations of WRD shirts.

Unlike waiting in long lines for bibs, shirts, and expo swag, World Run Day is a modern day big-city marathon where runners download a bib, can click to purchase an event shirt if desired, and browse thru a “virtual running expo” of HD video pitches. They all come down to earth, however, when they run their favorite course and donate to their favorite charity. There’s nothing virtual about that. It’s real.

In 2019 the concept of virtual running is not that far-fetched. Marathons in New York, London, and San Francisco offer virtual running to their portfolio of events.

World Run Day believes in the philosophy of “Today I Will Do What Others Won’t So That Tomorrow I Can Do What Others Can. That’s what the event’s all about, says McDermott. Just run and donate to your favorite charity this Sunday, November 10. Your health and charity are both counting on you.
